Personal Description:
I'm a 32 year old former secondary MFL teacher and I'm passionate about sharing my love of languages with others!
After studying French at GCSE, A Level and then at undergraduate degree level, I lived in Paris for a year and worked as a translator for fashion trade show organiser.
I continue to immerse myself in Francophone culture, while based in the UK, and also enjoying running, cooking and the arts.
After completing an MA in Leadership in Education with a focus on behaviour as communication, I am now working for a national provider of alternative provision and I'm passionate about the importance of providing learning opportunities for all.
Teaching Experience:
I trained as a secondary Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) teacher through the Teach First programme in 2020 and have experience teaching both in the classroom and online. Over the past five years, I’ve taught French and Spanish in secondary academies, guiding three GCSE classes from Year 9 to Year 11, as well as teaching a wide range of Key Stage 3 groups. I also specialised in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), adapting curricula and sequencing to ensure accessibility of learning.
In addition to teaching, I’ve designed and delivered MFL curricula for diverse groups of learners, including many who speak English as an additional language. I love exploring how languages connect and often bring this enthusiasm into lessons to make learning more meaningful and engaging.
For native French speakers, I offer focused support in grammar, reading, and writing—perfect for those looking to strengthen their academic or formal language skills.
Teaching Approach:
My teaching approach is inclusive, research-informed, and shaped by the principles of cognitive science. I use high-quality, evidence-based strategies to make sure lessons are clearly structured and accessible for every learner. This includes careful scaffolding, so that students feel confident as they build new skills and knowledge.
Each lesson includes regular, informal assessment to check understanding and identify both strengths and areas for development. This allows me to adapt my teaching in real time, offering personalised support when it’s needed most. Lessons always begin with a short recall activity to strengthen memory of prior learning, and end with a clear recap and practical suggestions for further independent practice.
I also place great value on student feedback and use it to tailor my teaching to meet individual needs—ensuring that every learner feels heard, supported, and challenged appropriately.
