Mariana

My name is Mariana and I am a Portuguese native speaker.
I have a 4-year degree in Modern Languages and Literatures and a MscR in Anglo-American studies. I teach Portuguese and English as foreign languages to students of all ages and levels.

Tutoring Experience

I have provided private tuition services since 2008 and I have taught English language and literature at SIM University (Singapore Institute of Management) in Singapore.
I currently work at the University of York.
I am based in the UK and I run my lessons through Zoom or Skype (or in-person around York).

Tutoring Approach

I value the formal specificities of the languages in my teaching approach by focusing on the grammar and internal structures of each language. As a bilingual individual I consider it to be of value to include a contrastive analysis approach in the acquisition of a second language. For students who wish to learn Portuguese or English for conversational purposes, I tailor my lesson plans to fit that specific purpose.
