An English Literature and Language specialist, working in Rochdale Sixth Form College. In 2024, I achieved the top 25% of results in the country (including private schools) for Ed-Excel Pearson, A Level English Literature. In 2024, I also achieved the highest results in the country (private schools included) for GCSE English Language Re-take, with none of my students achieving below a Grade 5. I also have a 100% pass-rate for both English Literature and Language. (evidence can be provided upon request).

Tutoring Experience

Over four years, I have worked at Aquinas College and Rochdale Sixth Form College. I am a PGCE and Early Career Teaching Mentor, lead in GCSE English Language, School of English and in A Level English Literature.

Tutoring Approach

All of my lessons begin with recall to prior learning, to ensure students don't forget key information. There is high focus on examination technique and what the exam board wants to see from student answers, resulting in regular writing practice and looking through the lens of passed papers/predicting examination questions to come. I streamline content so student's aren't overloaded with information (breaking texts into key quotations, into key analysis and breaking GCSE questions into formulas that work). I provide essay structures and model example essays. I believe the more examples you see, the better. Writing answers together also works to strengthen student confidence.

I like to listen to the student's needs and wants and we then push to get whatever grade they are after.
