Highly qualified, passionate, buzzy and very well experienced teacher and lecturer of English (Language and Literature) and German (Language, Literature, Film, Culture) from KS2 to post-graduate level - all ages welcome, from 1 to 100. Exemplary knowledge of KS4, KS5 and the European A1-C1 exam framework requirements with a wealth of tips and tricks to promote and secure strong results. Tailor-made sessions to build confidence, boost language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and enable students to have fun whilst making swift progress. Copious experience with the 1-9 curriculum, and multifarious strategies to help students of all abilities access higher grade boundaries in each examination, be it German, English Language, English Literature or the combined Language and Literature at A level. I currently teach both in person and online, and am able to tailor each session to the individual with my trove of adaptable and bespoke resources readily to hand.
I've taught German and English for many moons across all ages, levels and abilities, and love tweaking tasks to help students 'click' - with the right materials and approach; everyone can make quick progress and have fun accessing areas of language or lit they might have previously found daunting. My teaching experience has predominantly been in schools and in the university sector, and many of my former students have been inspired to continue with their German and English studies, not only at advanced level, but at degree and post-graduate level too. I have also taught natives aged 3-18 in Cologne, Germany, focusing on literature, history, politics, film and art in tandem with language acquisition. My KS3, KS4 and KS5 experience is tailored to the exam boards Edexcel, AQA and OCR, and having been a head of department for most of my teaching and lecturing life, I am adept at providing students with creative materials to support them in every step of their exam preparation. Teaching via Zoom with online lessons is an excellent way of boosting learning if travel is less convenient.
I work closely with tutees face-to-face in my home and / or online to provide an approach which complements their preferred learning styles. Some prefer a focus on visual or tactile learning with involving a plethora of speaking activities, whilst others respond well to an exam tailored approach with a multitude of grammatical tasks in German or analysis of writers' methods in English, focusing on langauge and structure in the poetry anthologies, Shakespeare, the 19th Century literature and the post 1914 works. No matter the preference, I easily find ways to tweak things to suit the individual learner and insprire confidence, high levels of articultation and fluency, as well as unblocking creativity. My mission is always to instil self-belief - students of all ages and abilities must feel they 'can do it', and I strive to help that be their mantra. I also offer nice tea and coffeee to parents / carers choosing to wait here whilst their cherubs are being taught!
