I’m a former Head of Mathematics at a successful secondary school and sixth form college, with over 15 years of one-to-one tuition experience. I hold a First-Class degree in Mathematics and Qualified Teacher Status.
Throughout my teaching career, I’ve supported students across all levels - from building confidence in KS3 to securing a Grade 4 or Grade 9 at GCSE, all the way to achieving A* in A-level Further Maths. I’ve taught and led a wide range of courses, including Maths, Further Maths, and Statistics at KS3, GCSE, and A-level. This has given me both a deep knowledge of the subject and a clear understanding of how to teach it effectively to students with diverse needs and goals.
My Head of Maths role demonstrates more than just subject expertise - I also understand the curriculum, exam requirements, and how to make learning as efficient and targeted as possible. I tailor my teaching to each student’s starting point and use a wide bank of high-quality resources to ensure time is well spent.
If you're looking for tuition that is focused, effective, and backed by real classroom experience, I'm confident I can help. And if for any reason you’re not satisfied with your first session, it's free from me - no questions asked.
Over the years, I’ve held a variety of Teaching and Learning responsibilities and job roles, including Head of Maths, Head of House, and Intervention Lead. These positions have given me time to develop a broad curriculum perspective on how students learn across classes and year groups, as well as in depth knowledge about how individuals and small groups operate mathematically.
Alongside my school leadership experience, I’ve been providing individual tuition for over a decade. This has allowed me to work closely with students of all abilities, adapting my approach to suit each learner. Many of my students and their families have shared positive feedback, noting not only improved results but greater confidence and enjoyment in Maths.
It is important to master topics in depth but also to return to previous skills periodically. I like students to go over each topic in sufficient detail, covering many possible variations before moving on to make sure your knowledge is secure. Most schools are now using a 'mastery' approach in Mathematics and this has never been more important within A-level where the challenge of questions has increased dramatically. If the sessions are in the run up to exams working through past papers works well, as it tackles issues in exam style whilst refreshing the students knowledge of the material. Exam questions are also important for ensuring students work at the expected level.
