I offer in person tuition in Maths and English at Key Stage 2. After a career as a primary school teacher (mainly the junior age range) I became a private tutor and I am thoroughly enjoying the rewards of seeing my students making progress and gaining confidence. About half of my new students come to me as a result of recommendations from parents of previous students.
In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening and walking in the local countryside. When I have the opportunity I love travelling. There are so many wonderful places to see at home and abroad!
I was a primary school teacher in Derby for several years until I moved to Cheshire with my husband in 2000. I worked as a supply teacher in schools in Cheshire, Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn for a further 2 years. After starting a family I decided not to return to teaching but worked in schools as an invigilator, midday assistant and midday supervisor. After a period of time helping children as a voluntary classroom assistant I became a personal tutor in 2016. As it happens most of my students have been from year 5 or 6, looking ahead to their SATs in Maths and English but I am more then happy to help children from any age group in KS2.
My aim is to make lessons relaxed and fun as well as productive. My priorities are to help my students feel at ease, and make lessons relevant to their individual needs, interests and personalities. In order to build self-esteem it is essential to assess their needs carefully from the outset, find the gaps in their knowledge and skills, and develop their learning on a firm foundation. I use the National Curriculum as a benchmark. I have a wide range of resources and activities to enable me to approach learning in a variety of ways. I incorporate plenty of revision and assessment activities throughout the programme of lessons. After each lesson I always take time to give feedback to parents.
